About This Project
From field, to a garden for all the family
This client requested a garden design for their new build house that was practical for their small children and easy to maintain, yet attractive and versatile for entertaining. The quarter of an acre plot was previously a field and thus devoid of any features.
At the front of the house we designed a gravel drive with low maintenance planting. Modern paving slabs lead to the entrance and the garden is partially screened from the street with a low fence, with integrated discrete bin storage.
The back garden includes plenty of space for sitting near the house and also an area for entertaining around a fire pit, a water feature and a children’s play area. In the rear portion we added a small wildflower meadow with mowed paths that is a haven for wildlife and reflects the garden’s agricultural past.
Beside it we created a vegetable garden, which is screened from view from the house by newly planted fruit trees.
The planting of perennials and grasses adds interest and changes with the seasons, while multi stem trees add vertical elements and maturity. The deciduous hedges around and within the plot screen the property from view and filter the wind, creating a calm and enjoyable space.
